You’ve hit the mid-life highway and far from being the freedom filled, time-for-you, time-for-fun, ‘everything is sorted’ cruise-control road trip you were hoping for, it’s turning out to be one hell of a bumpy ride, with no clear map, an unreliable engine, signs you can barely read, pot-holes (that are sometimes sink holes), constant loo, stops, food stops & diversions (for your companions) and endless dead-ends, road blocks and flat-tyres.

BUT all the other stuff is taking the shine off the whole experience and it’s not the joy-filled, heart and soul fuelling, life affirming, relaxing, uplifting adventure you had planned for midlife.

That’s (mid)-life my love! Full of curve balls, bumps, challenges and changes galore (and don’t even mention the ‘M’ word!) – it can be exhausting, demoralising and thoroughly discontent-inducing!

I’ve tried it the hard way (i.e. working it all through by myself) so I’ve experienced how much of a total mystery it can feel, and SO very hard when you’re trying all the things, and you keep ending up back a square one (even for someone like me who knows all the things to do, doing it yourself is a whole other story!).

And having resisted for years, I finally got my own personal coach through which I’ve learned the true value of having someone alongside you to help you explore things more deeply, asking you the right questions, and giving you unbridled support to navigate the trickiest, stickiest, gnarliest bits, when you felt like giving up - believing in you even when you don’t, making things feel a little less hard.

So it doesn’t have to be quite so mind boggling, frustrating or lonely!

You just need someone to give you a hand, a leg-up, to tell you that it’s not too late, and to help you figure it all out…

And that’s what has inspired me to do what I do, using all the tools in my personal and professional toolkits!

As a bespoke 121 package the BIRCH coaching experience is as individual as you are and reflects the unique life that is yours.

With Birch you have a dedicated container of time and a cocoon of supported space in which we work together as I take you on a deep journey of guided self-discovery and personal development to unpack your ‘stuff’, get to know and prioritise ‘you’ (your needs, desires and fulfilment) and re-imagine, re-think and redesign your life, on purpose, so it aligns with the up-to-date version of ‘you’ and allows you to sparkle and shine.

We agree between us how long is right for you, and we co-create what that time together is made up of.

This is not a structured programme or a standard framework.

(There are no cookie-cutters, boxes, or one size fits all formulas round here)!

This is about helping you to get intentional about prioritising your self-care, wellbeing and fulfilment and bringing you back into your life, in a way that feels do-able, uplifting and joyful to you.

I’ll help you to get out of your head and connect with your whole self, your heart and soul, so you’re not just creating a life that looks good, you’re cultivating a life that’s full of all the things that matter (including you!) and which FEELS light, bright, delightful and fulfilling – to YOU.

 And I’m with you every step of the way for the time we work together, which is why I only work with a few select women at any one time.  That way you have my FULL attention, and all my best energy directed your way.

Here’s how it works

It starts with you and I having an informal chat so we can get to know each other a little bit, decide whether this is the right thing for you and that we will work well together.

This is what I call a Curiosity Call, or a Cuppa-Chat (you may also know it as a ‘discovery call’ or sometimes a ‘chemistry’ call)

(This bit’s free, with no strings attached you just need to ‘book a call’. It can be in person if you’re local and fancy a little meet-up or stroll, or a phone call (possibly a zoom) and it’s always great with a cuppa!)

Step 1

If we agree we’re a good fit to work together, we’ll decide what length of ‘cocoon’ is right for you, and agree a date & time for us to start. We’ll also discuss options for a mutually convenient and suitable location for our first session (more details in step 4). And I’ll talk you through the nitty gritty details to get the ball rolling.

If you are looking to do the one-day intensive, this is when I will explain what that involves and how it will work.

Step 2

Once you’ve secured your spot, I will email you to confirm the next steps. I will also send you some prompts a few days before our first meeting to get you thinking about what you particularly want achieve from the coaching so we can make the most of our time together.

Step 3

For 3, 6 or 12month Packages - The First Session

The first session typically lasts 1.5-2 hours and will be face to face, in person wherever practicable, and is likely to be a walk and talk session outside in nature followed by a sit somewhere (a cafe, a bench, a pub) to pull together the basic vision and plan for our time working together, from your high level desires and goals through to the preferred frequency of getting together (fortnightly often works well) and how you would prefer to keep in touch in-between sessions .

At the end of the session we will also agree when and where our next session will take place, and how you want to be supported in-between sessions.

Step 4

Within 2 days (usually) of the first session I will send you a detailed summary of the things we discussed, the next steps that you decided you wanted to take, and any resources or prompts to help you move forward between sessions.

(I’m told my notes are amazing and super helpful, so you can feel free to concentrate fully on the work we are doing together, and on walking, without the distraction and worry of having to remember everything we cover - which in such a short time can be a LOT!).

Step 5

Subsequent Sessions

How many coaching ‘sessions’ you have and how they are scheduled across our time together together will be determined by what works best for you (and me). You may choose a regular frequency (fortnightly works well) day and time (e.g. every Friday at 10am) or you may wish to be more flexible, depending on what else is happening in your life, the specific thing you are working on in-between sessions (some things may take a bit longer to implement).

Usually there is a routine pattern, but with flexibility to respond to ‘stuff’ that comes up (including holidays, work commitments, illness etc. that may require your energy on any given week).

This is your time, life is rarely without some interruption or distraction, and I want this to work for you and your needs.

In addition, we may choose to run longer sessions from time to time to allow us to do specific work such as Vision Boards.

Step 6

Doing inner work and making big changes in how you live your life is not easy (that’s why we’ll be working together, right?), so in-between sessions I will be providing remote on-going support to you (this could be via What'sApp/E-mail/Slack/Voxer, and may include extra tools and resources). This will not only help to keep the momentum going and give you some accountability, it also means that if you get stuck, have a wobble, need clarification or a nudge, or some extra resources, I will be on-hand to help you work through those sticky, gnarly, messy-middle bits, and to give you all the unconditional belief and support that you need.

Step 7

At the end of our time together we will either have a wrap-up session to conclude our time together, or you may decide that you need/want to continue. We can talk about that at the time.

Step 8

What Birch Coaching is like…

You need to know that this coaching is no sticking plaster or quick fix.

It involves authentic, honest, deep work to get to the nub of what makes for your best life, transforming the foundations of your life in a way that works for YOU.

We’ll untangle what’s getting in your way, explore where you really want to be and how you want your life to FEEL.

I’ll also ask challenging questions (nicely!) to make you think and reflect and hold a mirror to you so you can see your truth to understand yourself and your life better.

I’ll help you to own your truth, to see things from different perspectives and to believe in new possibilities.

Then we’ll identify the best steps for you to get where you want to be.

And best of all, as empathy and listening are my absolute super-powers (humble brag) you will be heard and seen like you’ve never been heard and seen before - with a warm and compassionate embrace – which makes the difficult & uncomfortable stuff less scary to dive into – because you don’t have to do it on our own and you have the support from someone who really sees you, hears you and understands you, with absolutely NO judgement.

There’s no ‘right’ way, there’s just your way.

And the icing on the cake is you’ll have the unwavering belief, and endless encouragement from me as your cheerleader and champion to help you make it all happen, with enough time and deep support to really embed the shifts for lasting change, and the confidence, tools and resources to keep doing it.

 It’s game changing.  Transformational. Magical. (just saying!).

And I WISH that I had had someone like me to help me to untangle all the stuff, make sense of it, to see different perspectives and new possibilities, and to guide and support me as I began to make the inner and outer transformations.

Because as I now know, it is SO much quicker and easier when someone who ‘gets it’ has your back, gives you unconditional belief & support, holds you accountable (in a nice way) and equips you with the tools, courage and confidence to keep on doing it, your way.

The day I took a deep breath and chose to get intentional about treating my wellbeing, my freedom and my fulfilment as important & a priority alongside all my other important things is the day I properly invested in ME and is the day that my inner-sparkle began to come-back!

Here’s the juicy goodness of what Birch 1-2-1 Coaching typically includes:

  •  1 face-to-face ‘life-audit’ deep dive and goal planning session so we get clear on exactly where you’re at, what needs untangling, where you want to head and what might get in the way. This will guide the start of our journey together (typically 90 mins or up to 2 hours). 

  • 10 face to face coaching sessions (in person outside in nature, or if that’s not possible, on zoom). These are typically 30-60 minutes depending on what’s needed and what works best for you. Longer sessions may be agreed to accommodate work such as Vision Board creation, journaling, or longer walks!

  • Detailed post session summaries after every session so you can revisit and reflect on what we cover, and to remind you of actions you have identified.

  • Journal prompts, nature nudges and evidence based tools & resources specific to your needs to help you explore and reflect when you’re doing your work. If I don’t have anything readily available, I will create it for you!

  • Additional bespoke sessions dedicated to things like Vision Board creation, personality/other psychometric tools, longer Nature Walks, journalling skills - anything you need that might be helpful that we can’t effectively cover in a ‘normal’ session.

  • In-between session support (Slack, Voxer or WhatsApp or plain old e-mail) to keep the momentum going, and also to help you if you get stuck and need some added encouragement, digging, reflection or inspiration to keep you on track.

  • Regular accountability check-ins at a pace that suits you. 

  • A wrap-up final session, where we make sure you have everything you need to be your own coach and keep going on your journey navigating the psychological and emotional lumps and bumps that will pop up from time to time as you continue to cultivate your #bestlifeyet.

Whilst your investment will depend on exactly how long you want to be supported, to give you an idea, the investment for a bespoke one day package starts from around £750, and around £6,000 for a 12 month package.

  • I think of Coaching with me as a journey of guided self discovery, consisting of facilitated conversations that help you to understand more deeply what is going on for you and what you desire, and which give you the clarity to identify how you want to get from where you are to where you want to be. It is a safe space where you can be properly listened to, without judgement, where you will also be supported to take the actions to move you from where you are to where you want to be, AND which helps you to navigate and deal with any resistance, blocks or difficulties that you encounter along the way. I coach drawing on a range of evidence based tools and approaches, including psychology, nature connection, emotional intelligence and our mind/body connection, and will also bring other elements into out work as feels appropriate. My style is friendly, gentle yet challenging, highly supportive and empathic, and injected with a big dose of humour. I want out sessions to be impactful, fun and inspiring.

  • Bespoke simply means that there is no cookie-cutter timescale or content for your time with me - we co-create what is right or you in terms of how long we work together, how often we meet, where we meet, and I bring whatever tools and approaches to our work that I feel are right for you and the work we need to do, drawing on a range of evidence based tools and approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Coaching, Psychology, Emotional Intelligence, Somatic Coaching (Mind/Body) and other helpful resources.

  • Coaching outdoors, or in nature, is coaching that not only takes place outside, but which also draws on the insights we naturally see and the deep connection that we innately feel as human beings when we are in nature. For me it is a very special place to coach, and often it feels as though ‘mother nature’ is a third person helping us along in our work together!

  • Often they are, as I truly believe it is a fantastic and transformational space. BUT there are times when it is better to be sitting, and to be inside somewhere comfortable. I will always be guided by you and the nature of the work we are doing, so where we meet is likely to vary according to what we need to do, and also how you (and I) are feeling. We will agree where is best before each session.

  • I am based just outside Winchester in Hampshire (UK) and normally work from locations in and around the Winchester area that I know well, and which I therefore know are delightful and suitable (extending to Romsey, Bishops Waltham areas). I am also happy to discuss travel to other locations, you just need to know that this may incur an additional fee to cover extra time and travel.

  • All the spaces I choose are relatively easy places to get to and to walk around - I don’t want our time together to be distracted by us worrying too much about tripping over, or getting lost - so this is not a ‘wilderness’ experience! Most of the places are woodland, meadows/fields, parks or riverside - or a combination It could even be that a National Trust place or similar Hilliers near Romsey, is the right place. I also choose places that you are happy with, so I will always agree with you before we meet - and they are places where there is somewhere to sit at the end - whether that’s a picnic bench, a cafe or even a pub (or similar)

  • We will always take a view on the weather. I don’t believe in ‘bad’ weather, but there are certainly times when being outside is not appealing, or safe - in the extreme heat, or storms, high wind etc. On these occasions we will agree either to reschedule when the weather is better, r we can take our session inside, somewhere with a view of nature perhaps. That said, a bit of rain shouldn’t stop us!

  • Not at all, though obviously it would help if you like being outside, and/or want to learn to like being outdoors! My enthusiasm will more than make-up for any lack of knowledge you may have!!

  • Yes - you can pay in monthly instalments. We can discuss this when we decide how long we want to work together.

  • This is a really informal conversation we have, ideally with a cuppa in hand, where I will ask you a bit about what you are experiencing, and what yo hope to achieve, so I can get a sense of whether I can help, and what would be the right way for me to help. It is also your opportunity to get to know me a bit better so you can understand more about what Ido and how I work, and whether you feel I am the right person to help you. There is absolutely no obligation to sign-up to anything, or to take things further simply by having the call (though obviously if I feel we are a good fit, I am likely to invite you to work with me!)).

  • This comes down to where you live, the time of year, what time of day we agree we will meet, and also how comfortable you are being in nature. We will never be in ‘the wilderness’ but some of the places I work in are more cultivated than others, shall we say, and we may decide a cafe, or even a pub, is what is needed!

  • I have a degree in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Occupational & Organisational Psychology, I am a Certified Coach, an Associate Member of the International Society for Coaching Pschologists, a Member of the British Psychological Society and a trained mediator. I regularly engage in CPD. I have worked with a range of clients with different life experiences, work/life issues, needs and desires, but they all have in common a drive to make the most of life, and to find ways to intentionally enjoy life more and to transform their experience of midlife. I have both corporate experience (as an HR Manager) and understand life as a self-employed ‘solopreneur’/freelance psychologist, so I ‘get’ the challenges of work-life balance from a wide range of perspectives!! I also have a tonne of ’life’ experience and resultant wisdom to share!
